A major political coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu has formally abandoned its plans to register the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), shifting its support to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Bolaji Abdullahi, the coalition’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed the realignment during a high-profile meeting in Abuja on Thursday. According to him, party leaders unanimously agreed to cut ties with ADA and consolidate their political strength under the ADC.
As part of the new arrangement, the ADC leadership has extended an invitation to prominent figures across opposition parties including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain Nasir El-Rufai, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart Aminu Tambuwal urging them to resign from their current platforms and fully commit to the ADC.
The meeting was attended by heavyweight politicians, including ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Aminu Tambuwal, and Chibuike Amaechi.
Abdullahi disclosed that all presidential hopefuls under the ADC banner have pledged to rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming primaries. He further revealed that the National Working Committee will soon announce the dates for the governorship primaries in Osun and Ekiti states ahead of their off-cycle elections.
The coalition’s pivot to the ADC is widely seen as a strategic move to consolidate opposition forces into a single, more formidable platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
