KYIV, Ukraine — Russia has targeted Ukraine’s capital with drones, killing three people in their homes, local authorities reported early Sunday. At least 29 others were wounded, including seven children.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed that a 19-year-old woman and her 46-year-old mother were among those killed in the attacks.
Drone attacks damage residential areas
Russian drones caused fires in two residential buildings in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district. Emergency crews evacuated civilians from a nine-storey building and a 16-storey building to prevent further casualties.
Ukraine defends capital against drone assault
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 101 drones overnight. Ukrainian forces intercepted 90 drones, but five strike drones hit four locations. Debris from the downed drones fell on five additional locations.
The attack follows a similar strike the previous day, which killed four people, including two in Kyiv, prompting fresh appeals from Ukraine’s president for Western air defense systems.
Impact on civilians
The attacks highlight the continued threat to civilians in Kyiv despite Ukraine’s defensive efforts. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow evacuation orders when necessary.
