French authorities have detained a driver who allegedly struck and injured several pedestrians and cyclists in southwestern France. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed the arrest and announced that a full investigation is underway.
Incident Details
The shocking incident took place on Wednesday, November 5, along a route connecting Saint-Pierre-d’Oleron and Dolus-d’Oleron, two villages roughly four miles apart on the island of Île d’Oleron, off France’s Atlantic coast.
According to Interior Minister Nunez, the suspect drove through multiple locations, hitting both pedestrians and cyclists before the vehicle was stopped.
Two victims are reported to be in serious condition, while three others sustained injuries.

“An investigation has been opened. At the request of the Prime Minister, I am heading to the scene.”
Authorities later confirmed that the suspect’s car was found burned, and police (gendarmes) secured the area for forensic analysis.
